JUNK MAIL

JUNK MAIL

When I was growing up, our letterbox was quite a walk down a hill and out of site of the house and one of my 'chores' was to go and collect the mail. Somehow, I think this has led to a fascination with mailboxes and this painting is another in that series. As a young girl, letters in the mailbox represented excitement, anticipation, perhaps something new. A letterbox stands at the threshold of everything safe - home and everything unknown - the rest of the world. This work is a large Australian county landscape with my quirky interpretation of rural mailboxes.
